Dr. Carlos A. Jiménez-Rivera received his B.S. in Biology (1979) from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras. He then obtained a Ph.D. (1986) in medical Physiology from the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine in Albuquerque, NM. He did postdoctoral training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Universidad Nacional Autónoma, Mexico, D.F. and Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia, PA. He conducted sabbatical studies with Dr. John Williams at Vollum Institute in Portland, OR. Dr. Jiménez-Rivera is currently a Professor in the Department of Physiology at the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine. His research interests are related to the role of the central noradrenergic system in drug abuse, learning mechanisms in cocaine addiction and epilepsy. He has mentored numerous undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral trainees. He is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, the International Brain Research Organization, the Molecular and Cellular Cognition Society and the National Hispanic Network on Drug Abuse. Dr. Jiménez is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Drug and Alcohol Research. He forms part of the board for the International Drug Abuse Research Society (IDARS). His research has been funded by National Institute of Health (NIDA, NINCDS and NIGMS) and is currently supported by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.
